PAYNE MAKES FIRST HAV-A-TAMPA EVENT AT LAWNDALE

Lawndale, NC·David Payne, driving the #8 Payne Racing Supplies Monte Carlo, made his first HAT feature of the â99 season at Lawndale, NC.

Out of 32 cars at the newly renovated Thunder Valley Speedway, Payne poorly qualified 26th. Payne started in the seventh position of the first heat. While running in the sixth position Payne had a flat tire and had to drop in the pits to repair the flat. His crew got him back out but Payne couldnât advance forward and had to settle for a ninth place finish in his heat.

After replacing the rear-end in the teamâs towing truck, Payne and the rest of his team repaired the car from Friday nightâs damage. Payne started the consolation race in the ninth position and passed the final transfer spot to get into the field on the final turn of the consi.

Payne, starting 22nd, would develop engine troubles only 33 laps into the main event and would finish the night in the 22nd position.
