Lawndale, NC∑David Payne, driving the #8 Payne Racing Supplies Monte Carlo, made his first HAT feature of the ‚99 season at Lawndale, NC.

Out of 32 cars at the newly renovated Thunder Valley Speedway, Payne poorly qualified 26th. Payne started in the seventh position of the first heat. While running in the sixth position Payne had a flat tire and had to drop in the pits to repair the flat. After replacing the rear-end in the team‚s towing truck, Payne and the rest of his team repaired the car from Friday night‚s damage. Payne started the consolation race in the ninth position and passed the final transfer spot to get into the field on the final turn of the consi.

Payne, starting 22nd, would develop engine troubles only 33 laps into the main event and would finish the night in the 22nd position.
