PAYNE CONTINUES HOT STREAK

(CHATSWORTH, GA)- David Payne celebrated victory after leading wire-to-wire to capture the Budweiser Super Late Model win at North Georgia Speedway. “I am very pleased,” explained Payne, driving the #8 GRT/Payne Tire Racing Supplies Monte Carlo.

“Considering what we went through today, getting the motor in the car so late, winning this one was great. We also hadn’t run this car since wrecking here almost two months ago, so we were unsure on just how the car would work.”

Payne took to the track for qualifying last and would end up putting up the quickest lap of the evening with a lap of 13.48 seconds (89.03 mph). Among the 18 competitors Payne grabbed the pole just in front of Jason Welshan and Brian Hickman.

At the drop of the green flag Payne battled wheel to wheel with Welshan for the lead with Payne crossing the stripe to lead lap one. As the field fought their way around the track, it was no such fight for Payne. Payne would eventually open up a demanding straightaway lead as he began to catch lapped traffic.

On lap 12 the event’s first caution flew for a stalled car on the track. Following the caution Payne began to open up an even larger lead while lapping over half of the field. The event would stay green the rest of the way giving Payne the win.

Also bringing in a good run for the Payne Racing stables was the elder Payne, Ronnie with a seventh place finish driving the team’s backup car after a years absence from the cockpit.

With the win Payne was able to cap off a successful season with five wins at the 1/3 mile oval. This past weekend was the last regularly scheduled event of the season at North Georgia Speedway. “Dad ran well and we tacked on another win so it was a good weekend, and we didn’t tear anything up. We’ve got two more special events down here and I hope we can run well at both of those,” said Payne.

Payne’s GRT/Monte Carlo is sponsored by Payne Tire Racing Supplies, RaceTek Engines, Pioneer Trusses, Mountain View Homes, P&R Log Homes, Interstate Welding, Gibson’s Vinyl Graphics, Hicks Specialty Welding, and Stealth Racing Carburetors. Payne would like to thank all his sponsors and crew for making this win possible.
